Note:
Coyote is an unincorporated community located between San Jose and Morgan Hill, California, and was originally known as Burnett
(after California Governor Peter H. Burnett) until residents noticed an abundance of coyotes in the area. It was also a stage
stop sometimes known as 12 Mile House. The Burnett Post office was established on April 30, 1862, and was moved and renamed
Coyote Post Office on March 13, 1882. It became a classified branch of the San Jose Post office on July 3, 1975.
